I went with a very simple design to emphasize my international background. I put the name of the company in the header, and the actual resume in the body. I put my location in the header, and explicitly stated that I am located in India. I chose a very common design of bullet points to emphasize ease of readability. I made sure that all my experience was written in the third person format. I chose a very common design of bullets to emphasize ease of readability.
It’s much more time consuming to make your own template, but in the long run you will be glad you did. The only thing I would change is to have two different job titles for the same position. One is Sales Associate, and one is Technical Sales Associate. I have them separated as three separate jobs, since a part time job at a coffee shop doesn’t make sense.
I’ve used this template for 5+ years and it is the only resume template I’ve ever used and it has gotten me 3 job interviews in 2 years! # 2: The “old fashioned” two column resume template (neither of these have existed before I came along and invented them). Both of these resume templates come with a cover letter template that is just two columns.
You will not get a call for an interview for most positions. It is better to have a crappy resume and bad interview skills than it is to have no resume and perfect interview skills. I wrote this resume with the goal of being able to get a job as a software engineer. I am not good at programming and I do not have any major projects to show. I thought I could show my projects during interviews but no one cares.
I did my best to follow the advice of this site and really made it my own. I hope I did it justice. I am looking for new opportunities and need a solid resume to help me get my foot in the door. Thanks!
You don’t have to put your whole life story on your resume. You can leave out dates, schools, and jobs that don’t apply. That way, you can fill up more space with the important stuff. If you have a family member who has helped you get into college, take that into account. That’s why I put family friends in there.
I went from potentially getting a job, to working there a year later. The main reason I went with this template was that I liked the ease that Monster was going to give me with the content. I didn’t have to worry about making a functional resume, and that was a huge factor in my decision to take a chance.
I was able to fit all the work experience, education, and references in 1 page. I did it by using left justification and setting the text size a large number of times to make sure the text did not stretch or shrink too much. Once I had my content in place I was able to fit it all on 1 page. The design is clean and modern with a strong focus on content and typography.
I sent it in for a resume review and the lady said it was terrible. Not only that, she said it was the worst resume she’d seen and that she wasn’t sure if it was a resume at all. Not only that, she said it didn’t look like a resume at all and that it looked like a “resume for a high schooler”. I should mention here that I’ve been applying for jobs since May and have not gotten any call backs.
I was able to fit all my relevant experience onto one page while still keeping the narrative flow and info flow of a resume. I’ve applied to over 30 jobs and have not heard back from a single one… not even a rejection email. I truly believe that if my resume was any good, I would have heard back from at least 2/3 of the companies that I applied to.
