A traditional rule of thumb followed by executive resume writers is to be sure to never use any filler words in the title of your resume, as they will be wasted space in your resume. Instead, you should focus on knowledge and skills, which will give your resume more credibility. This way, the hiring manager will have an easier time understanding how you can benefit their company as a potential new employee.

You need to highlight your professional skills and educational accomplishments. One section to include on your resume is a professional summary. A professional summary is a brief description of your qualities, skills and experience as it relates to the job you are applying for.

Add at least two sentences to your summary to communicate why you are right for the job and what you will bring to the new company. Your summary should inspire the hiring manager to read on to learn more about you.

Your education section should include the degree or diploma you earned, the school, the year you graduated and any academic achievements you received while at that school. If you have additional scholarships or were awarded any other awards, you should include those as well. Your education section should clearly highlight any honors you received as well as your GPA if it is 3.5 or higher.

  1. Your professional summary should be a brief sentence or two that communicates your top skills, experience and achievements. This section should show the strengths and expertise you can bring to the new company.
  2. Your work experience should include your most recent job, the name of the company, the years you worked there and your job title. If you have extensive experience working in your career and you are seeking a new job, you can include that in this section. You can also include relevant tasks you completed at your previous job if you have a lot of experience there.
  3. Your soft and hard skills should be featured throughout your resume. They can be core competencies like computer and software programs, or they can be soft skills like team leadership, written communication or self-management.

Try to include a combination of both in each skill section…. You can put your best skills and experience first on your resume to emphasize your achievements and skills. Your resume should be clear and concise, so you can quickly show the hiring manager what you can do.

Start by reviewing the job description and making note of any keywords or phrases it includes. Then, look for ways you can incorporate those keywords and phrases throughout your resume. For example, if the job description says they are looking for someone with strong leadership, show how you possess that trait in your current role.
